Young Apostles Captain Sets Strong Target Ahead of Debibi United Clash
Young Apostles captain Ramzy Abubakar has challenged his teammates to maintain the club’s strong record against newly promoted sides when they face Debibi United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The Bono rivals will meet for the first time in the top flight, with the fixture providing Debibi United an opportunity to secure their first Premier League victory at their own home ground, the Debibi Presby Park.
Debibi opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park in Berekum before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Swedru All Blacks.
Young Apostles, on the other hand, recovered from a 3-0 opening-day loss to Vision FC by beating Basake Holy Stars by 1-0 in Wenchi last weekend.
For Abubakar, the derby will demand concentration, particularly with Debibi expected to draw energy from their supporters.
“It will be a very, very, very tough game,” Abubakar told The BAC Sports. “This weekend, they are playing at their home ground, that is DBB. And they will be playing in front of their supporters.”
Despite acknowledging the challenge, the captain revealed that Young Apostles have their sights firmly set on an away victory.
“Since we came into the Ghana Premier League, no promotional team that has gained promotion to the Premier League has scored us.”
“We are still maintaining that and we are assuring our supporters, going to Debibi, we are going in for three points.”
The match will be Young Apostles’ first away assignment since their opening defeat, making a positive result particularly important as they look to build momentum in the early stages of the campaign.
Abubakar also called on the club’s supporters to remain behind the team, promising greater commitment from the players throughout the season.
“They will see new Apostles this season. We are ready to sacrifice, we are ready to work hard, die for the club,” he added.
With Debibi United still searching for their first win and Young Apostles targeting their first points on the road, Sunday’s historic Bono derby promises to be a closely contested encounter.
