A determined second-half display from Ghana’s Black Galaxies was not enough to overcome a resilient South African side, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in an international friendly on this afternoon.
The match, held on South African soil, served as a preparatory fixture for Bafana Bafana ahead of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which commences this Sunday, 21st December 2025
The opening period saw the hosts establish control, dictating possession and tempo while limiting Ghana’s attacking opportunities. The Black Galaxies, however, maintained a well-organized defensive structure, ensuring the scoreline remained level at the halftime interval.
South Africa’s introduction of fresh personnel at the start of the second half yielded a swift impact. The decisive moment arrived in the 57th minute, when midfielder Sipho Mbule broke the deadlock with a precisely struck effort, granting the hosts a deserved lead.
Conceding the goal spurred the Galaxies, coached by Kasim Mingle, into an improved performance. The visitors began to dictate play and created a series of promising opportunities in search of an equalizer. Their efforts twice struck the woodwork, while the South African goalkeeper was forced into an exceptional save, tipping a dangerous shot over the crossbar.
Despite this sustained late pressure and enhanced attacking presence, the Black Galaxies were unable to convert their chances. The final whistle confirmed a narrow 1-0 victory for South Africa, leaving Ghana to reflect on a good performance but ultimately fell short of winning or drawing the game.
