FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Black Princesses Fall Heavy to Japan
Ghana’s U20 Women’s team, the Black Princesses, suffered their second defeat in the group stage of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia, falling 4-1 to Japan.
Despite a resilient first-half performance, Ghana conceded two quick goals just before the break, with Sasai and Matsukubo finding the net in the 45th minute and in first-half stoppage time.
Japan extended their lead shortly after the restart, with Hamaya adding a third in the 50th minute.
Ghana’s captain, Stella Nyamekye, pulled one back from the penalty spot with seven minutes remaining in regulation time, offering a glimmer of hope for the Princesses.
However, Matsunaga sealed the win for Japan with a fourth goal, putting the game out of reach.
The defeat leaves Ghana in third place in Group E with zero points and a goal deficit of -4.
The Black Princesses will now face New Zealand in their final group match at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali, as they aim to secure qualification as one of the best third-placed teams.
