The Ghana Cricket Association officially kicked off proceedings for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B with a Captains’ Press Conference held at the Achimota Cricket Oval. The event served as the formal curtain-raiser for the tournament, which is set to take place in Accra from March 24 to 29, 2026, with team captains convening to share their insights and outline their ambitions for the competition.
Addressing the media, Ghana’s captain, Obed Harvey, dismissed any notion that his side is feeling the weight of expectation as they prepare to face regional rivals.
Emphasizing the squad’s composure and collective experience, Harvey stressed that the team remains focused on executing their plans rather than succumbing to external pressures.

“I wouldn’t say there’s so much pressure,” Harvey stated. “Most of us have gained a vast amount of experience. The more you play cricket, the more you become better.”
Harvey elaborated on the team’s preparation, noting that while they respect the variety of playing styles present in the tournament, Ghana’s focus remains on their own brand of cricket.

He expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to make an impact, with a top-two finish serving as the primary objective.
“Every team here has their own way of playing. And we also have our own way of playing,” Harvey explained. “We have put in some good work. I know very well that the squad that we have is really, really looking forward to creating major offsets.”
Ghana is scheduled to open their campaign against Seychelles on the opening day of the tournament. Harvey outlined a pragmatic approach to the group stage, emphasizing the importance of focusing on each fixture individually to build sustained momentum.
“We want to take it game by game, starting from tomorrow,” he said. “Hopefully, we start off on the right foot and we’ll keep the momentum going forward.”
Ghana will face stiff competition throughout the week-long tournament, with matches scheduled against Eswatini, Tanzania, Malawi, St. Helena, and Seychelles.

With qualification for the next stage of the World Cup pathway at stake, the hosts are determined to capitalize on home advantage and deliver a strong performance in front of their supporters.
The tournament officially begins on March 24, with all matches to be played at the Achimota Cricket Oval.
