Ghana’s long-standing boxing tradition is set for a bold new chapter on May 8, as the country’s finest fighters step into the ring on the sands of LaBoma Beach in La, Accra. The event, called Best of Bukom 3, is organised by Bishop Boxing Promotions and promises to be one of the most striking boxing nights the country has seen in years.

Promoters have chosen the coastal venue to turn the event into a full cultural gathering, part sport, part festival with vendors, food sellers, and hospitality operators already preparing for a surge in visitors.

The goal is to grow the event into something people attend not just for the fights, but for the overall experience.

The Main Event

At the top of the bill is a super welterweight clash between undefeated Henry Malm and long-time rival Sampson Segbedzi. The two boxers have history, and what is at stake on fight night is more than just a win, it could shape the career paths of both men going forward.

Supporting the main event, Nigeria’s Yusuf Mohammed Olalekan will take on Ghana’s own super welterweight champion Muath Rahman Lawson, who will defend his national title on home soil. The international matchup adds extra weight to an already strong card.

Rising Stars

The card also offers a stage for the next generation. Rising star Majid Yakubu will make his first outing under the Bishop Management banner, facing seasoned campaigner Ghislain Vodounhessi. Meanwhile, the unbeaten Emmanuel Masvli will put his clean record on the line against hard-hitting Moses Adjei Selvi, a fight that carries real risk for both men.

Beyond the Ring

For the people of La and the wider Accra community, the event is meant to showcase identity, unity, with boxing bringing it all together.

In a move that reflects that broader thinking, Bishop Boxing Promotions has unveiled the Bishop Boxing Care Act, a commitment that guarantees every fighter on its cards a full year of complementary health insurance and access to welfare support. It is a notable step in a sport where fighters often carry the physical cost of their careers alone.

Ahead of the event, a free health screening will be held in Osu, offering blood pressure checks, diabetes risk testing, and general wellness assessments. The initiative is open to all residents and reflects the event’s stated commitment to public health.

The Coaches Top-Off Fund has also been set up to provide monthly financial support and basic supplies to trainers working across Ghana’s boxing gyms.

Bishop, CEO and President of Bishop Boxing Promotions, said the programme is designed to help coaches build better environments and guide young athletes toward long-term development both in sport and in life.
