Renowned boxing promoter and founder of Bishop Boxing Promotions, Dave Bishop, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of 1st Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
Running under the campaign theme, “Elevating Ghana’s Boxing: Experience, Dedication, Leadership,” Bishop says his vision is to strengthen the sport by leveraging his extensive promotional background and deep commitment to athlete development.
According to Bishop, his campaign is centered on four key priorities aimed at transforming Ghana boxing and creating sustainable opportunities for boxers across the country.
The first priority focuses on grassroots talent development. He plans to establish structured youth academies and mentorship programs to identify and nurture promising athletes from schools and local communities. He also intends to collaborate with educational institutions and community groups to position boxing as a positive path for youth development and career growth.
Another major area of focus is facility and equipment upgrades. Bishop has pledged to champion the modernization of community gyms and training centres across the regions to ensure athletes train in safe and well-equipped environments. He also aims to improve access to quality training gear and essential resources for under-resourced boxing clubs.
On expanding competitive and commercial opportunities, Bishop proposes the promotion of a consistent calendar of regional and national boxing events to provide local fighters with regular exposure and progression routes. He also plans to attract sponsors and commercial partners to increase prize purses and secure long-term investment in Ghana boxing.
Athlete welfare and governance form the fourth pillar of his campaign. Bishop has promised to implement stronger support systems for boxers, including medical care, financial literacy, and post-career planning. He is also advocating for transparent, accountable administration within the GBA to strengthen trust among stakeholders.
Speaking on his motivation, Bishop emphasized the untapped potential of Ghanaian boxing.
Ghana boxing has immense potential. With hands-on experience in promotion, a commitment to long-term athlete development, and principled leadership, I will work to open new pathways for boxers and strengthen the system that supports them,” he stated.
Elections for the Ghana Boxing Authority are scheduled for June 2, 2026. Bishop has called on athletes, trainers, promoters, officials, and boxing fans to support his vision for a stronger and more competitive future for Ghana boxing.
