The legal dispute between Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Dutch former coach Rene Hiddink took a decisive turn yesterday, Wednesday, May 6, 2026, when the Tema High Court sat on the case.

In a session marked by competing filings and a clear breakdown of settlement talks, Hearts of Oak submitted formal “Terms of Settlement” aimed at resolving the breach of contract claim brought by the experienced trainer.

According to documents presented before the court, Hearts of Oak proposed to pay the equivalent of one (1) year’s salary, calculated at a net monthly figure of $4,800.00. This amounts to a total of $57,600.00, significantly lower than the original compensation award of $144,000.00 that Hiddink claims for breach of contract. Additionally, the club offered to settle outstanding salary arrears in the sum of $2,400.00.

The combined offer from Hearts of Oak stands at a total of $60,000.00. This figure contrasts sharply with the original sum being sought by Hiddink, which totals $146,400.00 plus an additional 5% interest per annum.

However, any hope of an out-of-court resolution was immediately extinguished. Legal representatives for Rene Hiddink formally rejected the club’s settlement terms, informing the court that their client is no longer interested in any form of compromise settlement. The Dutch tactician’s legal team affirmed their intention to press forward for the full award.

Presiding over the case, the court acknowledged the impasse and issued a series of directives. Hearts of Oak has been ordered to file their full written submissions within two (2) weeks, laying out their legal arguments against the original compensation award.

The case has subsequently been adjourned to Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at which time the court is expected to set a definitive date for its ruling on the matter.

Both parties remain bound by the court’s schedule, with Hearts of Oak potentially facing the full $146,400 judgment plus interest should the judge rule against their position.
