Cudjoe Fianoo, the former Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has expressed support for President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to make the Black Stars’ budget publicly available.

The seasoned football administrator emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, particularly since taxpayer money is involved. “I fully support the President’s stance on making every Black Stars budget public. Accountability is crucial, especially since it’s taxpayers’ money,” Fianoo said in an interview with Lawson FM.

The directive was issued by President Mahama during his first State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27. He highlighted that given the Black Stars’ decline in recent years, there should be no secrecy surrounding the government’s financial contribution to the team.

“Next month, the Black Stars, now a shadow of their former selves, will be in action. I have instructed the Minister for Sports and Recreation to ensure the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is held accountable, particularly regarding the team’s budget,” President Mahama said. “There will be no secrecy about how much money the government spends on the national team. The budget presented by the FA and other relevant associations must be made public because it’s the taxpayers’ money.”

The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Madagascar in March as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
