The Upper East Regional Executives of Taekwondo have officially announced Saturday, 27th June 2026, as the date for the commencement of the Regional Taekwondo Championship, signalling a step in the development of the martial art in the region.

The announcement was formally made during an Executive Board Meeting convened on 15th May 2026, where stakeholders deliberated on the most suitable arrangements for hosting the competition.

According to the regional executives, the selected date represents the most convenient and practical window for organising a championship of this scale, taking into consideration the schedules of participating schools and the logistical requirements of the event.

The decision reflects the governing body’s commitment to delivering a well-structured and competitive platform for young athletes across the Upper East Region.

The championship is designed not merely as a competition, but as a strategic gateway for identifying and nurturing the region’s finest taekwondo talents ahead of the Ambassadors Cup.

Organisers have positioned the event as a critical talent identification and development exercise, with the ultimate aim of preparing standout athletes for the upcoming Korea Ambassador’s Cup Championship, a prestigious tournament scheduled for August 2026.

Athletes who demonstrate exceptional skill and potential during the regional championship will be earmarked for selection and further preparation ahead of that national assignment.

Activities are scheduled to commence at 8:00 AM at the Bolgatanga Catholic Social Centre, a venue well-regarded for hosting regional sporting events.

The centre’s facilities are expected to provide adequate space and structure for the smooth conduct of all three disciplines throughout the course of the day.

A total of seven schools have been confirmed to participate in the championship, comprising six private institutions and one public school. Notably, Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School will stand as the only Senior High School taking part in this edition of the regional championship, lending an additional dimension of representation to the competition.

In recognition of the efforts and performances of all competitors, the organisers have confirmed that awards will be presented to outstanding athletes who distinguish themselves during the championship.

Furthermore, all participants will receive certificates of participation, a gesture that affirms the regional body’s commitment to encouraging broad involvement in the sport and affirming the value of every athlete’s contribution to the championship.

The Upper East Regional Taekwondo Championship is expected to serve as a springboard for the region’s competitive aspirations at the national level, and it is expected that the event will unearth a new generation of talent capable of flying the flag for the region at the Korea Ambassador’s Cup and beyond.
