Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has suffered an injury ahead of the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this month.
The 26-year-old picked up the injury during Rayo Vallecano’s 1-1 draw with Sevilla on Saturday, March 1, and was forced to leave the pitch in the 35th minute, being replaced by Aridane Hernández. The specifics of the injury are yet to be determined.
Mumin had been impressive defensively before his substitutions clearing a goal-bound shot off the line, making an interception, blocking a shot, and completing 17 out of 21 passes.
This injury comes as Ghana prepares to face Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a trip to Morocco to play Madagascar on March 24. The latter match was relocated after CAF deemed Madagascar’s home stadium unfit for the qualifier.
Although Mumin has had a sporadic presence in the Black Stars’ squad, he has consistently been one of La Liga’s top defenders for the second year running.
He has made 24 appearances this season, scoring twice and providing an assist.
It’s unfortunate for Abdul Mumin and the Black Stars, especially with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers just around the corner. His defensive contributions for Rayo Vallecano have been solid this season, and losing him would be a blow for Ghana.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t too serious, and Mumin can recover in time for the qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. His form in La Liga this season has certainly caught attention, and Ghana would be hoping to have him available for the crucial games ahead.
