Team Ghana has officially departed Accra for Badagry, Nigeria, where the country’s beach volleyball representatives will compete in the CAVB Zone 3 Nations Beach Championship, a regional qualifying tournament sanctioned by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).

The Ghanaian delegation, comprising 14 members made up of players, coaches, and referees, departed with a clear mandate, to make the country proud on the sand and secure qualification to the next stage of the African Beach Volleyball Championship.

Ghana joins seven other West African countries, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Togo, Niger Republic, and Liberia, in the coastal town of Badagry, Lagos State, for a tournament that doubles as both a competitive showcase and a continental qualification pathway. The championship is being hosted by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) and runs from 3 to 7 July 2026.

Badagry, known for its beautiful coastline and deep historical significance in West Africa, provides a fitting sporting backdrop for a competition built around regional unity and the development of beach volleyball across the CAVB Zone 3 region. Organisers of the championship have described it as a platform for elite athletes to showcase their talent while competing for a place on the Global stage.

For Ghana, the stakes extend beyond the immediate contest. A strong showing in Badagry would not only advance the team within Zone 3 but also strengthen the country’s broader push to grow beach volleyball as a competitive discipline, adding to a sporting portfolio that already spans indoor volleyball, athletics, and a host of other codes on the domestic and continental circuit.
