Team Ghana opened its campaign at the CAA Region II U18/U20 Athletics Championships in Dakar with a statement of intent, returning from the opening day of competition with two individual gold medals and three silver medals across track events.
The nation’s young athletes, competing against some of West Africa’s most promising emerging talent, delivered performances that will give Ghana Athletics reason for optimism as the championships progress. Two national titles came in the men’s 400m, while Ghana’s sprinters and relay squads added further colour to the medal table with a trio of silver-medal finishes.

Moments later, Godfred Opoku matched the feat in the U20 category, giving Ghana a clean sweep of the men’s one-lap sprint titles on the opening day.

In the sprints, Janet Darkoaa produced the run of the day for Ghana’s women, securing silver in the U20 100m final. Her podium finish was complemented by strong showings from Aishatu Jaffar and Adelaide Fosuah in the U18 100m, who finished fourth and fifth respectively in a tightly contested race.
