Ghana’s undefeated two-time WBO Africa Featherweight champion, John Abaja Laryea, will take his unbeaten record into hostile territory when he faces Argentina’s Adrian Maximiliano Robledo on August 15, 2026, in Buenos Aires, a bout many are already tipping as one of the most compelling matchups of the year.
Laryea, who carries a record of 17 wins, no losses, and one draw, will be fighting outside his comfort zone for the first time against an opponent on home soil with the crowd, the judges, and the unfamiliar surroundings all working against him.
Robledo, undefeated in 13 of his 14 professional bouts with a single loss on his record, is expected to provide a stern and durable challenge in front of his own fans.
Boxing analysts have described the pairing as an evenly matched, high-quality contest between two skilled operators, with the potential to produce fireworks in the ring.
For Laryea, however, the away-day nature of the fight adds a layer of difficulty that scorecards alone will not settle. In fights held in an opponent’s backyard, a clean and unmistakable knockout is often the safest route to victory leaving no room for hometown decisions to play a role.
That is precisely the kind of statement win Laryea will be looking to produce.
This will not be the Ghanaian’s first taste of fighting on foreign soil. Laryea has already shown he does not shy away from testing himself internationally, having previously secured victory in the United States.
He further underlined his class at home with a standout performance against Holy Dorgbetor in their battle for the IBF African championship title, a result that added to his growing list of achievements and cemented his reputation as one of Ghana’s most exciting boxing prospects.
The “Expensive Boxer,” as he is affectionately known, is managed by Baby Jet Promotions and Bronx Boxing Promotions, under the guidance of Samuel Anim Addo and Coach Carl Lokko, the same team that has steered his career from the amateur ranks to continental championship honours.
