Benjamin Azamati concluded his campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a seventh-place finish in the men’s 100m final, crossing the line in 10.11 seconds on a night when Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme seized the title in spectacular fashion at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium.
Azamati’s route to the final had been the strongest form of his championship so far. Azamati clocked 10.00 seconds in both the preliminary round and the semi-final, matching his season’s best on both occasions and booking his place among the eight fastest men at the Games.
In the final itself, Azamati was drawn in lane one. He crossed the line in 10.11 seconds, with a reaction time of 0.163, finishing seventh in a field that produced a Games Record, an Area Record and two personal/season bests inside the top four.
The men’s 100m title was claimed by Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who exploded out of lane five to stop the clock at 9.83 seconds, a mark that stands as both a Games Record and a new Cameroonian National Record. It was a commanding display from the front, with Eseme never troubled through the closing metres.
Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy took silver in an Area Record and Personal Best of 9.85 seconds, edging out Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi, who claimed bronze in 9.90 seconds. South Africa’s Gift Leotlela rounded out the top four in a season’s best of 9.91 seconds, narrowly missing the podium.
