The Commonwealth Sports Federation of Ghana has unveiled its official hospitality, cultural, and diplomatic hub for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, an initiative that extends Ghana’s ambitions well beyond the medal podium.
The Federation held official press and media launch of its “Ghana House” project at the Ange Hill Hotel in East Legon, Accra.
The event brought together senior government officials, sports administrators, diplomatic representatives, and media personnel in a show of collective resolve ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The launch was performed by Hon. Seth Tekpe, Economic Advisor to the President and former Minister of Finance, who stood in for the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah. In his remarks, Hon. Tekpe underscored the importance of leveraging the Commonwealth Games as a platform to showcase Ghana’s rich identity.
Sports is generational, it is good to participate, but it is better to go beyond sports and sell the fashion, food, and culture of the people.”
He called on selected Team Ghana athletes to carry themselves professionally and urged them to go the extra mile in representing the nation on the global stage.
Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Adams described Ghana House as Ghana’s official hospitality, marketing, and cultural hub designed to drive public engagement and provide robust support for national athletes throughout the duration of the Games.
He stressed that the initiative reflects a broader vision of what participation in international sports can achieve.
When athletes win, Ghana wins. Let us place athletes at the centre.”
The Minister emphasised that the Commonwealth Games present opportunities stretching well beyond medals encompassing business investment, tourism promotion, and diplomatic engagement.
He called for cohesion between Ghana House and Team Ghana, noting that under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, every sport must thrive within the national ecosystem and serve as a vehicle for projecting Ghana’s image abroad.
Richard Akpokavie, President of both the Commonwealth Games Federation Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), pledged that the country would return from Glasgow with medals, investments, and new opportunities.

His assurance reflected the broader ambition that underpinned the launch that Ghana’s participation at Glasgow 2026 should yield tangible and lasting dividends.
Mr. Ernest Danso, the Chef du Mission (CDM) for Glasgow 2026, echoed that commitment with specific emphasis on preparation and athlete welfare.
As CDM for Ghana, I want us to win more medals and show presence on the games platform. We are also focusing on athlete welfare, intensive preparation, and training or camping before the games.”
Hon. Kobi Wowome, Chairman of the Ghana House Committee, briefed the assembled media on the conceptual framework and operational objectives of the project, reaffirming that it would serve as the anchor for all of Ghana’s hospitality and marketing activity in Glasgow. He expressed confidence that the initiative would prove both beneficial and rewarding for Ghana as a nation.

The event also drew the presence of Hooman Nouruzi, Head of Trade and Political Relations at the British High Commission in Ghana, who represented the High Commissioner and lauded the strong bilateral ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom. His attendance signalled the diplomatic dimension of the Ghana House initiative, which aligns with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council’s (CWEIC) agenda to advance trade and investment relations between the two nations.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, and Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority, alongside officials from related ministries, agencies, and organisations.
Ghana is set to compete across a 10-sport programme at Glasgow 2026, spanning athletics, swimming, 3×3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, gymnastics, netball, judo, and boxing.
