GFA Appoints Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars Coach
The Ghana Football Association has officially named Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The appointment follows the exit of Otto Addo after recent international friendlies, leaving Ghana in urgent need of leadership with the tournament fast approaching.
Confirming the decision, the FA stated “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.”
Queiroz brings significant World Cup experience, having coached at five FIFA World Cup tournaments (2002, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022). Across 16 matches, he has recorded four wins, four draws, and eight losses, with 19 goals scored and 19 conceded. His résumé includes guiding Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010 and leading Iran in back-to-back tournaments.
At club level, he has worked with Real Madrid and served as assistant at Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, adding to his vast tactical experience.
He now faces an immediate test, with Ghana set to open their World Cup campaign against Panama before taking on England and Croatia in a challenging group.
Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately as Ghana looks to stabilize and compete strongly on the global stage.
