Ghana’s beach volleyball has secured qualification for the Africa Nations Cup in Morocco following a gold medal-winning performance at the CAVB Zone 3 Championship, held in Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria.

The country’s headline result came in the men’s doubles event, where the pairing of Paul and Hameed won gold with a dominant straight-sets victory over Benin in the final, capping a tournament in which they were consistently the strongest team on the sand.

Ghana added further silverware in the women’s doubles, where Benedicta and Julie reached the final before losing to hosts Nigeria to take silver.

In the men’s team event, Ghana pushed the host nation all the way. Nigeria’s leading pair recovered from a lost opening set to edge Ghana’s top duo in three, while Ghana’s second pairing responded with a straight-sets win over Nigeria’s second team to force a decisive golden set. Nigeria held their nerve to win it 15-13 in front of a home crowd, denying Ghana the men’s team title on the tightest of margins.

Nigeria also topped the women’s team standings, with Ghana finishing runners-up to close out the championship.

Taken together, the results mark Ghana’s strongest showing yet on the regional beach volleyball circuit and confirm the country’s place among West Africa’s top two beach volleyball nations, alongside a rapidly improving Nigerian programme.

The qualification for Morocco also represents an early step on a longer path, with the Ghana Volleyball Federation viewing continental progress as part of a broader push toward qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

This qualification affirms the progress being made in Ghana’s beach volleyball scene and the potential for future successes on the continental and global stages.
