Ghana Athletics Association has issued a formal statement commending the Men’s 4x100m relay team following a strong outing at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, a result that secured the squad’s coveted qualification berth for the 2027 World Athletics Championships to be held in Beijing, China.
The statement, released on 3 May 2026 and signed by Ghana Athletics Association President Bawah Fuseini, the Association celebrated the team’s strong performance and also took ownership of shortcomings in the logistical arrangements that preceded the competition.
Ghana Athletics Association takes full responsibility for these concerns and acknowledges the importance of proper preparation conditions for elite performance. Bawah Fuseini, President, Ghana Athletics
According to the release, athletes raised concerns about travel arrangements and pre-competition conditions, issues that, if left unaddressed, could undermine Ghana’s ability to compete at the highest levels of international athletics.
Ghana Athletics confirmed that it will work in close partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to identify systemic gaps in athlete support and to implement improved frameworks designed to prevent a recurrence of such issues. The Association framed the intervention as part of a broader commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s representatives arrive at major championships not merely as participants, but fully prepared to compete.
The statement offered commendation to the relay squad for demonstrating resilience and an unwavering commitment to national duty, qualities that, the Association noted, made their achievement in Botswana all the more significant given the circumstances surrounding the trip.
