As the Black Stars prepare to commence their fifth World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto, President John Dramani Mahama, along with the Government and the over thirty million people of Ghana, has offered their unwavering support to the Black Stars
In a formal statement released by the Presidency, the Government reaffirmed its solidarity with the squad, emphasizing the profound national significance of this moment. The statement, delivered by Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, affirms that this tournament appearance is more than a sporting event, it is a reflection of Ghana’s enduring resilience and unity.
As you stand on the threshold of your first match against Panama in Toronto, the Government and the over thirty million people of Ghana stand firmly behind you,” the statement reads.
“This fifth World Cup appearance is a testament to the resilient spirit of our nation.”
The President’s message highlighted the symbolic weight carried by the players, noting that they bear not merely a football, but the collective hopes, dreams, and heritage of the people.
From the streets of Chorkor to the plains of Bole, every Ghanaian heart beats in sync with yours,” the statement added.
Recognising the critical role of the diaspora, the Government issued a special call to Ghanaian communities in Toronto and across North America, charging them to serve as the team’s “12th Man.” The statement urged supporters to fill the stands with the national colours of red, gold, and green, and to let the sound of drums echo as a reminder that, wherever a Ghanaian stands, home is never far away.
In a significant move to ensure national inclusion, the Government confirmed that it has successfully secured official television broadcast rights for the tournament.
This arrangement guarantees that every tackle, every pass, and every goal will be broadcast into homes across the length and breadth of the country, from Axim to Bawku, and from Ho to Hamile.
This is our gift to a nation that lives and breathes the beautiful game,” the statement declared.
The President concluded his address with a call to patriotism and purpose, urging the players to compete for the flag and for the children who dream of greatness in their footsteps.
The world is watching, and we are confident that the Black Star will shine brighter than ever before on this global stage,” he said.
The statement ends with a unified national rallying cry: “Go Black Stars!”
