One of the most significant developments Mr Cromwell observed during the tournament was the formal introduction of sensing gloves, a revolutionary technology that enables the automatic and real-time detection of body strikes.
The innovation fundamentally alters how scoring is adjudicated, removing subjectivity from the evaluation of physical contact and delivering immediate, data-driven results.
Complementing the sensing gloves, the reformed judging structure now operates with a single corner judge per bout, streamlined model that reflects the sport’s growing confidence in technology-assisted officiating.
Together, these advancements represent the most important overhaul of the Olympic Taekwondo judging system, and signal the direction in which World Taekwondo intends to carry the sport in the years ahead.

The meetings with World Taekwondo President Dr. Choue Chungwon, Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, and Asia Taekwondo Vice President Yang Jinbang, among other notable dignitaries, affirmed the GTF’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s athletes are not only aware of the new scoring system but are fully equipped to compete confidently at all levels from domestic leagues through to the global platforms.
