Ho, the Volta Region capital, will from August 14 to 17, 2026 play host to the 6th Inter-Regional Wheelchair Basketball Competition, one of Ghana’s most prominent showcases of disability sport.
The four-day tournament will bring together teams from across the country to compete in all disciplines of wheelchair basketball, under the banner “Ability, Inclusion, Empowerment Through Sport.”
The competition is organised by the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) Sports Wing in partnership with the Volta Parasports and Mobility Empowerment Foundation (VPMEF), with the Volta Region serving as host for this edition.
Participating regions for this year’s tournament include the Central, Bono, Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Upper East regions, who will join host region Volta on the court.
The tournament continues a now well-established tradition of inter-regional competition that has, over six editions, become a central fixture on Ghana’s para-sports calendar.
Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, will serve as special guest of honour for the event, lending regional government backing to a competition that is as much about visibility and empowerment and the competitiveness of the sport. Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe, National President of the GSPD Sports Wing, will preside over the tournament.
The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled – GSPD Sports, the umbrella body for the majority of disability sports in Ghana, said the tournament forms part of its wider mandate to uplift disability sport nationwide through the identification and development of talent for onward progression into the country’s various sporting federations.
