The 2026 World Cup will be played in 16 cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. From the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to the modern MetLife Stadium and SoFi Stadium, fans will enjoy different stadiums and exciting atmospheres.

The qualification stage is over, and the 48 teams are now preparing for the tournament. Squad lists will be announced soon, players are working to regain fitness, and coaches are finalising their tactics behind the scenes.

With 34 days to go, 1954 FIFA World Cup runner’s up, Hungary still hold the record for the most goals scored by one team in a single World Cup tournament. Known as the “Magnificent Magyars,” they scored an amazing 27 goals in just five matches. This record has stood for over 70 years.

Hungary’s 1954 World Cup campaign was amazing. They were seen as the best national team in the world and played exciting attacking football far ahead of their time. Led by Ferenc Puskás, they destroyed opponents with skill, speed, and creativity like never before on the World Cup stage.

They defeated South Korea 9-0, West Germany 8-3, and Brazil in the infamous Battle of Bern winning by 4-2 before eventually falling to West Germany 3–2 in the final in what remains one of the greatest upsets in tournament history. Even though they lost the final, their 27 goals remain a lasting symbol of relentless attacking football.

It is a record that teams in 2026 may set their sights on, though replicating such a goalscoring feat across what is now a longer and more competitive tournament will be a formidable task for even the most attack-minded sides.
