The Greater Accra Regional Director for the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Joshua Quist, has urged Ghanaians to see cyclists as rightful road users and not as obstacles.
Mr. Quist made this call at the launch of the 2026 PRURide, an event that brought together partners, stakeholders and cycling enthusiasts.
He said road safety begins with a change in mindset, one where cyclists are viewed as fellow travellers who share equal rights to the road, not as a nuisance to motorists.
Let’s respect cyclists as road users, not obstacles,” he said.
His comments highlighted the strengthening partnership between Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and the National Road Safety Authority in efforts to protect cyclists.
Prudential Life Insurance, organisers of PRURide say PRURide is more than the ride itself, it is also about building a culture of respect and shared responsibility on the streets of Accra.
The launch drew support from several key organizations, including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Cycling Federation, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Ghana Police Service, RITE Sports Services, and the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate.
Their attendance showed the wide collaboration behind this year’s edition of the event.
Ahead of the main PRURide event, set for Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Borteyman Highway, a Fun Ride will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, on the University of Ghana campus. The ride begins at Diaspora Hall at 7:00 a.m.
The Fun Ride is expected to attract the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, the CEO and staff of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, corporate organizations, cycling enthusiasts, students, and members of the public.
With backing from the National Road Safety Authority and a growing circle of national partners, PRURide 2026 is shaping up to be an important step forward for cycling and road safety in Ghana.
