Motsepe Congratulates Cameroon After Maiden WAFCON Triumph
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has congratulated Cameroon after the Indomitable Lionesses secured their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with a 3-0 victory over Malawi in Sunday’s final in Rabat.
The historic triumph earned Cameroon USD 2 million in prize money and marked a major milestone for the national team after their impressive campaign at WAFCON Morocco 2026.
In a message to FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o, Motsepe praised his leadership and the team’s performance, while expressing confidence in their prospects at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
“Congratulations on the historic and exciting victory of the Indomitable Lionesses and for becoming Champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026,” Motsepe wrote.
“Your excellent leadership and motivation of the Indomitable Lionesses contributed significantly to their victory and success.”
Cameroon’s prize also reflects CAF’s increased investment in the women’s tournament. The USD 2 million reward represents an increase of more than 900 percent from the USD 200,000 awarded to the champions in 2018.

Motsepe further challenged the new African champions to carry their momentum onto the global stage, saying: “I am confident that you and the Indomitable Lionesses will make the people of Cameroon and Africa proud.”
The CAF chief also commended Malawi for reaching the final and securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“Congratulations on the outstanding performances of The Scorchers at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 and for qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027,” he told the Football Association of Malawi.
Cameroon and Malawi will now shift their attention to Brazil, where both sides will represent Africa after their memorable campaigns in Morocco.
