NBA: LeBron Reaches 300 Playoff Games as Lakers Lose Again in Playoff Series
LeBron James made NBA history on Thursday night, becoming the first player ever to feature in 300 playoff games, but the milestone came in defeat as the Los Angeles Lakers lost 125-107 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal series.
James recorded 23 points, six assists and three steals despite appearing uncomfortable after several hard falls during the game. The Lakers competed strongly early on and even led in the third quarter before Oklahoma City took complete control with another dominant period.
The Thunder’s depth once again proved decisive. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 22 points despite foul trouble, while Ajay Mitchell added 20 points and six assists in an impressive starting performance. Rookie guard Jared McCain also made a huge impact from the bench with 18 points.
Chet Holmgren delivered another outstanding all-around display with 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals, helping the Thunder dominate the third quarter while Gilgeous-Alexander spent time on the bench.
I thought he was unbelievable,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said of Holmgren. “There’s nothing he can’t do, and when the lights are on, he’s at his best.”
For the Lakers, Austin Reaves impressed with a game-high 31 points, while Rui Hachimura continued his strong playoff shooting form with 16 points.
However, turnovers again hurt Los Angeles, who committed 21 mistakes that led to 26 Thunder points. Lakers coach JJ Redick admitted his side must improve quickly.
You can start seeing some trends here. We probably need to go back to the two keys we had against Houston, which is take care of the ball and box out.”
The victory gives Oklahoma City a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 in Los Angeles on Saturday.
