The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC Ghana) has officially announced the departure of para powerlifting athlete Tahiru Haruna and his coach, Prince Nyarko, to the 2026 Commonwealth Games Gap Training Camp.
The pair left Accra via the Kotoka International Airport to participate in the high-performance camp hosted in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The delegation is scheduled to return to Ghana on 29th March 2026 following the conclusion of an intensive training and competition programme designed to elevate the preparedness of elite athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The prestigious camp, organized by Commonwealth Sport in partnership with Stellenbosch University, has convened leading para athletes, technical coaches, and officials from across the African continent. It serves as a critical component in the broader roadmap toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Tahiru Haruna, who has already secured qualification to represent Ghana on the global stage, will engage in a rigorous training regimen. The programme features high-performance training sessions running from 20th to 26th March 2026, culminating in a competitive phase from 27th to 28th March 2026. This structure is aimed at sharpening his technical skills, enhancing strength conditioning, and providing vital competitive exposure against international opponents ahead of the Games.

The successful facilitation of Team Ghana’s participation in this camp was achieved through the collaboration between NPC Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). As a member of the Commonwealth Games Federation, the GOC was instrumental in securing the nation’s slot for para athletes at this essential preparatory event.
Throughout their stay in Stellenbosch, the Ghanaian contingent will benefit from comprehensive support services. The programme includes full-board accommodation, world-class training facilities, and dedicated welfare provisions encompassing medical care and safeguarding protocols to ensure optimal athlete performance and well-being.
