Prudential Life Insurance Ghana has officially thrown open registration for the seventh edition of PRURide Accra, the country’s most prominent urban cycling event, promising Ghana’s cycling community “the finest urban cycling race” yet as it returns to the streets of the capital this August and September.
Under the banner “Gear Up,” the 2026 edition splits into two distinct races designed to draw both casual enthusiasts and licensed competitors: a 30-kilometre Fun Ride open to the public, and a demanding Elite Race reserved for riders holding UCI licenses or active cycling club membership.
The event builds on an initiative Prudential Life Insurance Ghana has backed since 2019, when the company began supporting cycling development in the country and even established its own in-house cycling club.
During the launch of the seventh edition, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana officially opened the 2026 edition with a renewed commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability.
This year’s staging carries the theme “Pedal for Health, Ride for a Green Future,” reflecting the race’s dual focus on fitness and climate-conscious mobility.
The Fun Ride is the more accessible of the two contests. Open to all cycling enthusiasts regardless of experience, the 30km ride begins and ends at the University of Ghana Campus.
Riders can register free either by dialling the short code *778*001# or through www.prudential.com.gh, with sign-ups closing three days before race day.
The Elite Race is a far sterner test, run over 112 kilometres for men and 67.2 kilometres for women, and restricted to competitors with a UCI license or verified membership of a registered cycling club, who must enter through their respective clubs rather than as individuals.
That race unfolds two weeks later along University Farm Road in Borteyman, the venue that has hosted the competitive arm of PRURide in recent editions.
PRURide’s roots trace back to 2019, when the race was launched in the mould of RideLondon, once the world’s largest annual cycling festival and formerly a Prudential-sponsored event abroad.
What began as a modest urban ride has steadily grown into one of the most closely watched dates on Ghana’s cycling calendar, drawing riders from beyond the country’s borders.
Last year’s sixth edition, staged at Black Star Square, attracted cyclists from Ghana, Nigeria, and Morocco, comprising 120 elite riders and 280 amateurs, and introduced 100 electric bicycles supplied by Yenko Mobility as part of the event’s sustainability push.
This year’s edition arrives with added incentive with Prudential Life Insurance confirming a top prize of Ghc15,000 for the elite race winner. The seventh edition was formally unveiled at the VIP Centre of the University of Ghana, in partnership with the Ghana Cycling Federation, and drew a wide cross-section of stakeholders from sport, government, and academia.
The relaunch drew endorsement from senior figures across the sporting sector and public safety. Ghana Olympic Committee President Richard Kofi Akpokavie, Ghana Cycling Federation Secretary General Shabban Mohammed, Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority Joshua Kwasi Quist, University of Ghana Director of Sports and Wellness Dr Austin Luguterah, and representatives of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department all featured at the launch event.

Licensed and club-affiliated riders enter the Elite Race through their cycling clubs ahead of the 1 September 2026 deadline.
Race-day check-in for the Fun Ride opens at 7:00am on the University of Ghana campus; the Elite Race check-in opens at 11:00am on University Farm Road, Borteyman.
With registration windows now open for both races, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and its partners including the Ghana Cycling Federation, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the University of Ghana are positioning this seventh edition as the biggest yet, as PRURide continues its push to embed cycling more firmly into Ghana’s sporting and civic life.
