A bold vision for Ghana’s boxing future was unveiled on Thursday at the Laboma Beach Resort during the official press launch of the ‘Resurrection Fight Night’. Addressing the gathering, Nii Martey Dzata Obrempong 1, who served as the Special Guest of Honour and Chairman for the occasion, declared that Ghana must produce a world champion by the year 2028.

The prominent chief expressed strong confidence in the current generation of local boxers, identifying several boxers with the potential to ascend to the global stage. He specifically named Jonathan Tetteh, Joseph Commey, Alfred Lamptey, Emmanuel Quartey, and Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones, as the fighters capable of breaking into the world ranks and securing championship honours.

Nii Martey Dzata Obrempong 1 commended the efforts of the event’s promoters and sponsors, while also issuing a call to action for additional corporate entities to come on board to support the sport’s development.

The ‘Resurrection Fight Night’ is scheduled to take place on Easter Sunday, April 5, promising a thrilling lineup of bouts. Co-promoter Alex Ntiamoah Boakye of Box Office Promotions provided insights into the matchmaking, confirming that the fighters involved in the impending bouts are preparing diligently. He announced that a highly anticipated rematch between two of the featured boxers has already been fixed for August.

The main event of the evening will see Jonathan Tetteh, known as ‘Worldwide’, square off against Abdul Aziz Quartey for the National Light Heavyweight title. In one of the international clashes on the card, Seth Gyimah (Freezy Macbones) is set to face Nigerian boxer Jamil Animashaun.

The undercard boasts an array of talent, featuring Commonwealth titlist Michael Abban, who will take on Damien Zannou. Other exciting matchups include Benjamin Lamptey versus Kamaradeen Boydfio, and a bout featuring Nana Adjei Clinton. Alfred Lamptey is scheduled for a challenging encounter against the experienced Maxwell Awuku, while Joseph Commey, also known as ‘Jaguar’, will battle Bright Ayala.

Dr. Albert Tetteh Botchway, CEO of RBS Promotions (RBS Boxing), a new promotional outfit based in Ghana, spoke about his company’s collaboration with Alex Ntiamoah Boakye’s Box Office Promotions. He reiterated the belief that Ghana possesses quality boxers with the pedigree to become world champions. Dr. Botchway noted that RBS Promotions aims to add a distinctive touch to the sport by enhancing its cultural connection, promoting sports tourism, and boosting associated business opportunities.

The press launch also heard brief remarks from other representatives of Laboma Beach Resort and officials from Amsterdam, who pledged their support for the initiative.
