Tennis stars Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz emerged as the biggest winners at the Laureus World Sports Awards, securing the prestigious Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year titles in a star-studded ceremony in Madrid.
The 26th edition of the global awards was held at the iconic Palacio de Cibeles on Monday, bringing together elite athletes from across disciplines to celebrate sporting excellence.
World number one Sabalenka delivered one of the night’s most emotional moments as she reacted to her win.
“I’m shaking right now, I have goosebumps,” she said. “I feel emotional and speechless.”
The Belarusian has enjoyed a dominant run over the past year, underlined by her Sunshine Double success, winning both Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Her victory in Miami came against Coco Gauff, where she showed composure and tactical growth in a high-pressure final.
Sabalenka’s form also includes her 2025 US Open triumph, helping her maintain her position at the top of the rankings for over 12 months.

Her evolution into a more complete player, combining power with improved mental resilience, has set her apart on the women’s tour.
On the men’s side, Alcaraz continued his rapid rise by claiming the Sportsman of the Year award after a standout season.
“It’s a dream come true, it means a lot,” the Spaniard said.
Alcaraz’s selection follows his Grand Slam victories at the French Open and US Open, achievements that have cemented his place among the sport’s elite. Known for his explosive style and maturity, he has quickly become one of the defining figures in modern tennis.
The ceremony, hosted by tennis great Novak Djokovic, highlighted tennis’ dominance on the global stage.
For both players, the Laureus recognition marks another milestone in careers that continue to set the pace in world tennis.
