Ashanti Region Secures Semi Final Berth in the MTN Elite U19 Championship After Edging Greater Accra
Ashanti Region showcased not only resilience but also remarkable tactical maturity as they edged Greater Accra Region 2–1 to top Group B of the ongoing MTN Elite U19 Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on Wednesday.
While the result secured a semi-final spot for both sides, Ashanti’s display highlighted the growing strength of regional youth football structures, an evidence to Ghana’s ongoing efforts to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
Ebenezer Anane put Ashanti ahead midway through the first half with a well-taken strike, rewarding their early dominance and disciplined pressing.
Greater Accra, who had entered the game unbeaten, pressed for a response but were undone in the 85th minute when Afetse Emmanuel turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
A late surge saw Mustapha Bunyamimu pull one back for the Accra boys in the 89th minute, but it too little too late.
The victory means Ashanti Region finish Group B on 10 points, one ahead of Greater Accra. Both progress to the semi-finals, continuing their strong runs in a tournament that has been lauded for its competitiveness and technical quality.
