Samba for Ghana?! Zito Trying to Convince Congolese Defender

Karim Zito walked into the post-match press room at Baba Yara with the kind of grin only a last-minute winner can produce. But it wasn’t just the three points that had him buzzing—it was the man who delivered them.

Moments earlier, Congolese defender Samba O’Niel had stepped up in stoppage time, buried a pressure-soaked penalty, and sealed Kotoko’s 2–1 win over Young Apostles in a Ghana Premier League outstanding fixture in Kumasi.

Speaking after the game, Asante Kotoko head coach, Abdul Karim Zito praised the defender and also added how he has been trying to get the Congolese to switch international allegiance.

“Samba O’Niel is exceptional, and I’ve started trying to convince him to change his nationality and become Ghanaian. From there, we can take the next step.”

Samba had been solid all game, commanding at the back and unshakeable in the decisive moment. For Zito, that performance wasn’t just match-winning—it was national-team-worthy.

Today, Samba gave Kotoko the victory.

Tomorrow, if Zito has his way, he might be wearing the Black Stars’ colours.
