World Rowing has announced the hosts for two upcoming major events. The 2027 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and Coastal Championships will be held in Oeiras, Portugal. The following year, in 2028, the event will take place in Antalya, Turkey.

Both locations have successfully hosted this top-level event before. Oeiras was the host in 2021, and Antalya will host the 2025 finals. Their past experience ensures they are well prepared to organize excellent competitions.

The 2027 event in Oeiras will be especially important. It will be the qualifying event for the first ever Olympic Beach Sprint Rowing competition, which will debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. This means athletes will be racing to secure their spot in the Olympics, bringing great excitement and attention to the sport.

World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland said, “Awarding these events to Oeiras and Antalya shows our trust in these proven hosts and our long-term plan for Beach Sprint Rowing. Both places offer perfect conditions for competition and have a history of running outstanding events.”

Beach Sprint Rowing has become very popular due to its fast paced, exciting format and appeal to audiences. The sport continues to grow as it prepares for its Olympic debut, including being part of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. World Rowing is committed to improving events, encouraging more nations to take part, and holding competitions in beautiful coastal settings.

Returning to Oeiras and Antalya highlights World Rowing’s goal to create a strong and steady future for Beach Sprint Rowing, ensuring the sport begins its Olympic journey with a solid foundation.
