Aburi Girls’ Senior High School has officially commissioned a new multipurpose basketball court, generously donated by Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar, an alumna and Treasurer of the Ghana Basketball Federation. The project, named the Aurora Legacy Project, was formally handed over at a ceremony on the school’s premises.

The facility, constructed on the school’s Upper Court by PAK Sports Consult, boasts a high-quality fibreglass playing surface with an acrylic coating, breakaway basketball rims, and is officially marked for basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, and handball.

In her address, Madam Commodore-Toppar revealed the project’s origins in a personal pledge made upon her graduation in 2000. She detailed a disciplined savings plan begun in 2012, which secured an initial GH¢100,000 for the project. She also announced plans for a Phase Two, which will introduce tiered bleacher seating for spectators.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including her father, Mr. Emmanuel Martey Commodore-Mensah, and former headmistress Mrs. Alice Prempeh-Fordjour. The Headmistress, Madam Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora, in a remark read on her behalf, affirmed the facility’s role in promoting holistic student development. The Ghana Basketball Federation’s Vice President, Mr. Alex Kukula, endorsed the court as one of the finest in the country.

The unveiling was followed by exhibition matches in basketball and volleyball, demonstrating the immediate utility of the new facility.
