The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) has highlighted June 2026 as one of its most productive months, with major achievements recorded in domestic competitions, grassroots development, national team preparations, women’s rugby, and community engagement.

According to the federation’s June report, the month reflected substantial progress in strengthening rugby league across Ghana through structured competitions, expanded school programmes, stakeholder engagement, and volunteer-driven initiatives.

One of the month’s key highlights was the conclusion of the first round of the RLFG Men’s 13s Championship after five weeks of competition. The Dragons finished the opening phase unbeaten with a maximum 15 points to top the standings, ahead of the Bulls on 12 points and the Panthers on nine. The second round of the championship is scheduled to begin on August 2, 2026.

The federation also demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by commemorating Father’s Day alongside Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Through a dedicated awareness campaign, RLFG encouraged conversations around mental wellbeing while recognising the contributions of fathers, coaches, mentors, and male role models within the rugby community.

Individual excellence was also celebrated as Godfred Akwei Adotei received the RLFG Player of the Month award, presented with a pair of boots sponsored by Ric-Atmas in recognition of his outstanding performances.

National team preparations gathered momentum with the staging of the President’s Cup at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium. The Ghana National Team edged the President’s XIII 6-4 in a closely contested fixture, after which several players secured selection into the national squad for the upcoming Cambridge University Rugby League Tour.

At the grassroots level, the Rising Stars Rugby League Tournament – Accra Edition showcased emerging talent from school-based programmes. Rangers Team A claimed the boys’ title with an unbeaten campaign, while Queensland International School successfully defended the girls’ championship, reinforcing RLFG’s commitment to youth development.

Women’s rugby also continued to receive significant attention. The federation organised its inaugural Women’s Homecoming, welcoming senior high school graduates back into the sport following their WASSCE examinations. The initiative combined competition with mentorship and education, helping strengthen the women’s rugby development pathway.

In addition, RLFG’s “These Girls Can” campaign reached nearly 100 female students at La PRESEC and Accra Girls Senior High School. National team players led practical rugby sessions while sharing inspirational messages on discipline, education, and sporting opportunities.

The federation further expanded its grassroots footprint with the launch of the second Ashanti Region Youth Rugby League Championship and secured approval from the Ghana Education Service to extend rugby league programmes into additional schools in the Ashanti Region. The expansion increases RLFG’s presence to 13 schools and one community team, creating broader opportunities for talent identification and player development.

Volunteer development also remained a priority during the month, with eight additional volunteers deployed across Greater Accra, Central, Ashanti and Northern regions. Their efforts contributed to 24 training and playing sessions involving more than 370 male and female player participations across schools and communities.

Looking ahead, RLFG is preparing to host the Cambridge University Rugby League Team from July 6 to 13, providing valuable international exposure for Ghana’s national players. The federation is also finalising plans to launch the DIVA Rugby League Series, a landmark women’s competition aimed at strengthening elite female participation and creating a clear performance pathway for women in the sport.

The federation concluded that the achievements recorded in June 2026 demonstrate its continued commitment to building sustainable pathways for rugby league through structured competition, grassroots expansion, stakeholder collaboration, and inclusive development across Ghana.
