Ghana’s sprint hurdler Evonne Britton exited the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland at the heats stage of the women’s 60m hurdles, bringing her campaign to an early close.
Competing in the fourth heat on March 22, 2026, Britton finished sixth in a competitive lineup, posting a time of 8.15 seconds. Although she made a determined start, she was unable to sustain the pace required to challenge the leading athletes, whose superior hurdle technique and finishing speed proved decisive.

The result marks a setback for the 34-year-old, but also proves an important phase in her ongoing development as she continues to compete at the highest level.
Born in the United States, Britton switched allegiance to Ghana in 2024 and has since been working to establish herself within the country’s athletics framework. Her career trajectory reflects both versatility and persistence, having initially competed in the 400m hurdles before transitioning to the short hurdles in 2015.

Her early success includes a silver medal at the World U-20 Championships in 2010 in the 400m hurdles. She later recorded notable performances on the indoor circuit, including a second-place finish at the 2019 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, she set a personal best of 12.78 seconds in the 100m hurdles, narrowly missing out on qualification for the final.
Britton’s consistency was further demonstrated in 2019 when she secured her first senior national podium finish indoors with another second-place result in the 60m hurdles.
Following her decision to represent Ghana, she made her international debut at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
Despite the disappointment in Poland, Britton remains an experienced and valuable member of Ghana’s athletics team. She is expected to regroup and refocus as she looks ahead to future competitions, with the aim of delivering improved performances on the international stage.
