James Dadzie delivered an outstanding performance to win Heat 9 of the men’s 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, underlining Ghana’s growing presence in the sprint events at this year’s Games.
Competing in Lane 4, Dadzie produced a composed and commanding run, crossing the line in a time of 20.65 seconds to take the top spot in the heat.
His reaction time of 0.160 seconds reflected a sharp start, which he carried to seal victory with authority.
Gabon’s G. Maganga Gorra pushed Dadzie throughout the race, finishing a close second in 20.69 seconds from Lane 6, while Mauritius’ J. Vencatasamy rounded out the automatic qualifying positions in third place with a time of 21.49 seconds.
Anguilla’s T. Brooks clocked a personal best of 21.50 seconds for fourth, with Lesotho’s N. Ntelele also setting a personal best of 21.70 seconds in fifth. The Maldives’ Z.S. Hussain completed the finishers in 22.29 seconds, while Kenya’s E. Sabila was disqualified from the race.
Dadzie’s victory adds to Ghana’s impressive showing in the sprint events at Glasgow 2026 and sets him up with confidence heading into the next round of the competition.
