Ghanaian pair Enock Morrisson and Charles Kwablan Akonnor dominated the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League Awards after picking up the season’s top individual honours, following Gor Mahia’s successful title-winning campaign in Kenya.

Morrisson was voted the Most Valuable Player of the season and also secured the Midfielder of the Season award after playing a decisive role in Gor Mahia’s return to the summit of Kenyan football. Akonnor, on his part, was named Coach of the Season after steering the club to a record-extending 22nd league title in his debut year.

Their achievements marked a standout moment for Gor Mahia, whose dominance this season was shaped heavily by the influence of both Ghanaian figures. The duo’s recognition also reflects the growing impact of Ghanaian professionals in the Kenyan league.

Morrisson’s consistency in midfield stood out across the campaign, where he combined control, creativity, and resilience to help drive his side’s title charge.

Morrisson’s Consistency Inspires Gor Mahia’s Triumph

The former Asante Kotoko midfielder proved to be a key figure throughout the season, playing a central role in Gor Mahia’s push for the championship.

He featured in 30 league matches, contributing three goals and four assists while also collecting 15 MVP match awards over the course of the campaign. His influence in dictating play and stepping up in crucial fixtures made him one of the league’s most reliable performers.

After settling quickly into Kenyan football, the Ghana international became an essential part of Gor Mahia’s system, helping them reclaim the league crown and reinforce their status as the country’s most decorated club.

His performances did not go unnoticed, as he was rewarded with both the MVP and Midfielder of the Season honours, rounding off an impressive individual campaign.

Akonnor’s award completed a remarkable debut season in charge of Gor Mahia, where he guided the club back to league glory.

The former Ghana national team captain and Black Stars head coach led Gor Mahia to the SportPesa Premier League title, extending the club’s record haul to 22 championships.

He received the Coach of the Season award at the inaugural SportPesa League Gala Night, held on Thursday, June 4, at the Glee Hotel, marking the return of the awards after a break in the 2024/25 season.

Akonnor saw off competition from Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo, who helped APS Bomet avoid relegation, and Fred Ambani, who guided AFC Leopards to an impressive second-place finish and strong title challenge.

His tenure did not begin smoothly, with a defeat to Bidco United in his opening match. However, he quickly stabilised the team and engineered a strong run of results that pushed Gor Mahia into title contention.

The side endured only a few setbacks, including consecutive defeats to APS Bomet and AFC Leopards, the latter coming in the opening Mashemeji Derby clash.
