Ghana’s top jiu-jitsu athletes came together on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium for the National Jiu-Jitsu Championship, organised by the Ghana Jiu-Jitsu Federation.

The event brought together about 70 competitors from across the country, highlighting the steady growth of the sport in Ghana.

Across all matches, competitors showed strong technique, patience, and qualities that continue to define the sport as it develops locally.

Four different contest formats were featured: full contact, ground fighting, close contact, and no-gi bouts. Each format tested athletes in different ways, requiring both physical strength and smart strategy.

The variety also reflected the Federation’s efforts to build well-rounded fighters in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Federation President Maxwell Borketey Borquaye said “The championship serves as a selection platform for Ghana’s representatives at upcoming international competitions, including the world championship.”

At the end of the competition, winners were crowned across various weight divisions and skill levels. The medal ceremony brought the event to a close, celebrating the achievements of athletes who excelled on the day.

The National Sports Authority was also recognised for its continued support in promoting different sports across the country. Its role has been important in helping disciplines like jiu-jitsu grow and gain recognition.

The successful staging of the 8th National Championship marks another step forward for jiu-jitsu in Ghana. With increasing participation and stronger performances, the sport is set to reach even greater heights both locally and internationally.
