Laryea left Ghana as final preparations intensified for what stands as the most significant assignment of his professional career to date.
He travelled in the company of his long-time trainer, Lawrence Carl Lokko, who has overseen his training camp at the Bronx Boxing Gym in Jamestown, Accra.
The team’s send-off at the airport was witnessed by Mubarak Yusif Nanor, a representative of Legacy Rise Sports and Promotions and an experienced boxing matchmaker, whose presence underlined the depth of support behind Laryea as he embarks on this international assignment.
The August 15 bout represents a major opportunity for Laryea, who will step into hostile territory to face an Argentine opponent fighting in front of his own supporters. A victory over Robledo would strengthen Laryea’s standing within the WBA rankings and bring him closer to a long-awaited world title opportunity, a prize that has driven his career since he turned professional in October 2018.
Laryea, who holds the WBO Africa and IBF Continental Africa featherweight titles, carries an undefeated professional record built on a combination of composure and heavy hands.
His reputation for confidence, aggression and determination inside the ring has made him one of the most closely followed fighters to emerge from Ghana’s Bukom boxing district, and those same qualities will be tested in Buenos Aires.
Fighting in Argentina brings the additional challenge of performing away from home while absorbing the pressure that comes with facing a fighter backed by his own crowd.
It will not be Laryea’s first experience on foreign soil, however. He has previously fought outside Ghana, including a commanding win on American soil, and has also delivered notable performances on the biggest domestic stages against fellow Ghanaian contenders, results that speak to his ability to rise to the occasion when the spotlight is largest.
