Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, will represent the country at the World Armwrestling Championship scheduled for October 26 to November 7, 2026, in New Delhi, India, as the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) intensifies preparations for another major international assignment.
The championship, organised under the auspices of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), is set to be one of the largest gatherings in the sport’s history, hosted by the People’s Armwrestling Federation of India.
It will give the Golden Arms the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest and most technically accomplished pullers from across the globe.
The Golden Arms will travel to New Delhi with growing confidence following Ghana’s impressive showing at the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra, where the country demonstrated its strength and depth in the sport.
The nine-member team features some of Ghana’s most accomplished pullers, including world champion Grace Minta, world championship medallists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, and African champion Daniel Acquah, bringing a combination of world-class experience, continental success and emerging talent.
As part of preparations for the New Delhi championship, the Golden Arms will commence a national camping programme bringing together selected athletes for intensive preparation. The camp will focus on physical conditioning, strength development, technical and tactical work, recovery, discipline and mental preparation ahead of the championship.
The programme will also give the technical team, led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne, the opportunity to assess athletes and fine-tune the final squad across the various weight categories, with particular attention paid to international competition standards as Ghana seeks to translate its continental dominance into strong performances against the world’s best.
GAF President Charles Osei Asibey has reiterated the Federation’s commitment to providing athletes with regular opportunities to compete at the highest level, describing the New Delhi championship as both a medal opportunity and an important test of Ghana’s progress in the sport. Beyond the pursuit of podium finishes, participation will expose the Golden Arms to different techniques, styles and levels of competition, offering valuable experience for both athletes and the technical team.
With camping set to commence ahead of the October championship, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation has called on corporate and state institutions for travel support as preparations gather momentum. The Federation says its objective for the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship is to compete strongly, challenge for medals and further establish Ghana as a force to be reckoned with in world armwrestling.
