Theophilus Allotey continues to underline his growing stature in the sport, reinforcing his ambition to become the country’s first undisputed world champion.
The undefeated super flyweight (14-0-0) added the WBA Africa title to his collection after a commanding seventh-round stoppage of Namibia’s Jonas Erastus on the Rise Continues bill staged by Legacy Rise Sports Promotions. The victory also marked a successful defence of his WBO Global and WBO Africa belts.
Reflecting on the bout, Allotey described his opponent as awkward and difficult to read, accusing him of employing excessive holding and wrestling tactics. Despite the challenges, he maintained composure and secured a decisive stoppage, ending Erastus’ record of never being knocked out.
He further revealed that an accidental head clash, which resulted in a cut, intensified his determination to finish the fight early, citing a personal resolve to avoid sustaining cuts in his career.
Allotey’s ambition is to become an undisputed world champion, stressing that his team is working strategically toward that goal.
Currently ranked among the world’s top contenders, Number 9 by The Ring Magazine, Number 13 by the WBO, and Number 16 by the WBC, Allotey remains patient in his pursuit of global dominance.
He has expressed interest in facing top contenders such as South Africa’s Phumelela Cafu and Ricardo Malajika, while also aiming to test himself against elite fighters from the United States, Mexico, Japan, and Eastern Europe.
“I want to be the best, so I have to fight the best to truly know my level,” he stated.
Outside the ring, Allotey continues to make an impact through community initiatives. He has donated educational materials to students at Bishop Mixed School and launched boxing development programmes in Atukpai, Accra. He also uses his platform to encourage young people to prioritise education and avoid early parenthood.
With multiple titles already to his name, Allotey now has his sights set on winning the prestigious SWAG Award, believing the current phase of his career presents the perfect opportunity to achieve that honour.
