In a ceremony underscoring its commitment to sporting excellence, the Government of the Republic of Botswana has fulfilled its pledge by presenting a newly constructed house to Mr. Letsile Tebogo, the country’s gold medallist in the men’s 200m event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) successfully handed over the house to Mr. Tebogo who was formally welcomed to inspect the completed three-bedroom residence.

The property, with an approximate value of $170,000, was fully funded by the state as a reward for his athletics achievement.

The project was executed by Time Projects following a comprehensive process that included the athlete’s personal selection of the location and architectural design. Construction commenced after an official groundbreaking ceremony in October 2024, an event the BAA characterized as “the commencement of an enduring legacy project for the young champion.”

Mr. Tebogo’s success in Paris yielded a dual reward under the national incentive framework. In addition to his individual gold medal, he was also a key member of the Botswana men’s 4x400m relay team that secured a silver medal. Consequently, he, along with each of his teammates, has already taken possession of a two-bedroom apartment in accordance with the team award policy.

This landmark initiative was coordinated by the Ministry of Sports and Arts, in partnership with the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) and the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC). The gesture is an emblem of the government’s sustained policy to honour its sporting heroes and athletic performance, serving as a powerful inspiration for aspiring athletes aiming to represent Botswana at future Olympic Games, including Los Angeles 2028.

The official handover ceremony was presided over by the Honourable Jacob Kelebeng, Minister of Sports and Arts. The event was attended by prominent figures from Botswana’s sporting community, including BNSC Chairperson Mr. Marumo Morule, BNOC President Mr. Tshepo Sitale, and Acting BAA President Mr. Oabona Theetso, alongside members of Mr. Tebogo’s family.

Their attendance highlighted the collective national pride and solidarity within Botswana’s sporting fraternity as the country honours one of its most distinguished athlete.

This event stands as a tangible symbol to Botswana’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding the dedication of its athletes.
