Nigeria will travel to Accra, Ghana with one of their most comprehensive squads  the country gears up to compete at the 2026 CAA Senior Athletics Championships, scheduled to run from 12 to 17 May at the Legon Sports Complex.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has confirmed entries across a range of disciplines. From the blue-riband sprint events and middle-distance races to the throws, jumps, hurdles, and the gruelling decathlon, signalling a determined bid for continental honours on Ghanaian soil.

Headlining the women’s sprinting contingent is Tobi Amusan, the World 100 metres hurdles record holder, who lines up in the Women’s 100 metres hurdles alongside Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday.

In the flat sprints, Rosemary Chukwuma one of West Africa’s most reliable short sprinters will spearhead the Women’s 100 metres and 4×100 metres relay challenge, with Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria-Thompson Omokwe and Tejiri Ugoh completing the relay pool. Jennifer Chukwuka Obi and Rosemary Nwankwo take on the Women’s 200 metres.

The Women’s 400 metres and 4×400 metres relay unit is one of Nigeria’s strongest suits, with Patience Okon George, Treasure Okereke, Siviana Ossai, Esther Okon Peter and Jimoh Toheebat all named. Comfort Anietie James carries the national flag in the Women’s 800 metres, while Aderonke Akanbi competes in the Women’s 1500 metres and steeplechase.

In the field, Ruth Usoro and Favour Olise contest the Women’s Long Jump. Clergy Edet and Treasure Omosivwe compete in the Women’s High Jump, while Victoria Kparika represents Nigeria in the Women’s Javelin. Divine Oladipo and Jessica Oji take on the Women’s Shot Put, with Obiageri Amaechi named in the Women’s Discus and Oyesade Olatoye in the Women’s Hammer.

On the men’s side, Nigeria’s sprint programme is anchored by Favour Ashe in the Men’s 100 metres and 4×100 metres relay, joined by Enoch Adegoke, Chidera Ezeakor and Tejiri Godwin. The 200 metres sees Badmus Gafari, James Taiwo Emmanuel and Usheoritse Itsekiri in action. The Men’s 400 metres squad is equally deep, featuring Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel, Ezekiel Asuquo, Victor Sampson Ime, Chidi Okezie and Sikiru Adeyemi.

Nnamdi Onwaeze takes on the Men’s 110 metres hurdles, while James Gang competes over 1500 metres and 5000 metres. Romeo Bernard represents Nigeria in the Men’s Long Jump, and Adams Samuel Kure carries the flag in the Men’s Javelin.

The shot put sees Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, one of Nigeria’s most decorated field athletes joined by Emmanuel Audu. Completing the squad is Jami Schlueter, who takes on the demanding Men’s Decathlon.

The CAA Senior Athletics Championships, organised by the Confederation of African Athletics, serves as a key qualifying and ranking event on the African calendar ahead of the World Athletics Championships and other major global meets. With the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 also on the horizon, performances in Accra will carry added significance for athletes across the continent seeking form and selection momentum.

Ghana, as host nation, will be expected to field a strong contingent of their own, setting the stage for a compelling contest at what promises to be a high-stakes week of athletics in the Ghanaian capital.
