The Ghana National Boxing Team, the Black Bombers, together with their executives and head trainers, paid a courtesy visit to Ga traditional priest Nii Nunoo Akwaa Mensah III to seek his blessings ahead of their departure for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The visit formed part of the team’s final preparations as they look to represent Ghana on the international stage. It reflects a long-standing custom within Ghana’s sporting fraternity, in which national teams seek spiritual guidance and communal goodwill before major competitions abroad.

Nii Nunoo Akwaa Mensah III offered prayers and traditional blessings for the safety, unity and success of the team, urging the boxers to remain disciplined and to fight for the honour of the nation throughout the tournament.

The Black Bombers are expected to be among Ghana’s medal hopefuls at the Commonwealth Games after months of intensive preparations and training.

The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has named a ten-member squad, seven men and three women for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Leading the team is two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Abdul Wahid Omar (65kg), who will make a record fourth appearance at the Games. He is joined by 13th African Games gold medallist Amadu Mohammed (55kg) and African Youth champion Desmond Pappoe (80kg), both regarded as strong contenders for the podium.
